On Saturday May 2, 2020 we will be doing an indoor “fighting with a gun” workshop as opposed to “gun-fighting”. The difference being the focus on starting with a close-quarters striking or grappling engagement before introducing a firearm.
It has been a couple years since the last time we focused on this topic in a workshop format and we will have five phases of instruction. We will be using air-soft weapons to allow us to transition from physical resistance directly into target work.
Phase One will be focused on what I consider the absolute foundational skills of self-defense firearms practice. Including safety, general marksmanship, carry, and presentation. This portion is more on how to adapt these skills into long-term practice, and not intended for the person with no previous experience. This phase is based on both my military and competition firearms experience.
Phase Two will integrate visual and vestibular skill training. This is something we have been training with our athletes on the fitness and personal training side of the business for the last 11 years. Here the skills will be presented along with some recent studies showing how these skills not only effect shot accuracy but also decision making under duress by giving the shooter more time to process what they are seeing.
Phase Three will introduce zero-to-five feet shooting skills. These skills and drills are heavily influenced by the Shivworks Extreme Close Quarters Concepts (ECQC) course work. In addition to the shooting skills there will also be exploration and direction on how to introduce your weapon at the appropriate point in the fight without sacrificing control.
Phase Four will introduce target identification, sequencing, and immediate action drills for common tactical challenges. This portion is based exclusively on my overall military experience.
Finally, we will end the day pressure checking our skill set with grappling to shooting drills, progressively difficult decision-making, and progressively difficult environmental challenges.
As always, enrollment is limited to ensure quality instruction.
